ICT Workshop 3: Handmade Christmas Ornaments and Spinning Yarn!

Title and Date

Friday, November 22nd

Event Details:  Fascinating Points

Now it’s getting colder day by day. Why don’t you touch something WARM to keep your body
warm not only having hot meals? It would be a great opportunity to experience hand spinning with warm sheep’s yarn, and to find favorite craft/yarn shops where you can get high quality materials (made in Japan) of crafts at this workshop!

Reiko Usuda, a hand spinning artist, will show you how to use a spindle; drafting out fibers, twisting the fiber into yarn, and winding up and storing the spun yarn (including her spinning performance). The most common and easiest fibers used for hand spinning is sheep's wool, so she will pick up it and teach you in a easy way. Once you have mastered the spindle you will have practiced more to make beautiful yarn!

After spinning, we’ll make “Original Christmas Ornaments” out of colorful handmade yarn you spin. May even have the chance to get small gifts (Animal-shaped wooden distaffs)! And more, you will acquire the deep knowledge of yarn (e.g. history, the process of making yarn, online retailers and useful website to get crafts). It must be worth joining and feeling warm!
