Ikebana Floral Demonstration ~ Sogetsuryu ~ RSVP CLOSED!!! FULL!! 【Date】 Saturday, May 31st A floral demonstration is like a kind of entertainment show in which a presenter arrange flower materials in front of guests. In this event you can enjoy a live floral demonstration and see the process how Japanese style flower arrangements are made. Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, has been practiced for more than six centuries. Using 'empty' space and asymmetrical forms, Ikebana highlights the elegant lines of natural materials. Some people might presume Ikebana is an art from the Old World restricted by rules. However Ikebana is alive and not isolated from the times or our lives. Arranging flowers means to put your heart into your creation and reflect what you are. In this Event, a certified Ikebana instructor ( 1st grade professor) authorized by Sogetsu school, Mika Otani, will show how to arrange flowers in both the traditional style and the contemporary style in front of the audience after talking about the history and the basic knowledge about Ikebana. Mika also will teach us some unique techniques and tips that are versatile and changeable to decorate your home. On the way to home, we guess you cannot stop yourself buying some flowers! 4:00pm Open 4:30-5:15pm Lecture with projecting a lot of slides-the history and the basic of Ikebana art 5:15-6:30pm Live floral demonstration- Mika will create a lot of Ikebana works in front of you. 6:30-7:00pm Free Talk Time 【Instructor】 Mika Otani, a certified Ikebana instructor (1st grade professor) authorized by Sogetsu school. She was born in 1968, and graduated from University of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo.
